My name is Aoi（あおい）

Hello, everyone！

Welcome to Nihongo no kobeya (A small room of Japanese language)!

On this site, I will provide you with useful information for learning Japanese at any time. I would like to do my best to make the contents of this site rich and useful for both people who are studying Japanese and teachers who are teaching Japanese.

I gave this space this name in the hope that it will become a comfortable ‘small room’ where everyone can drop in and enjoy themselves.

For the reason that I want to promote interaction between Japanese language learners and Japanese language teachers, I will basically be posting both in English and Japanese.

If you have any questions, please feel free to let me know.

So, first of all, let me tell you a little about this site.

About the purpose of the site

This site aims to help learners and teachers of Japanese enjoy learning and deepening their understanding of the language. The three main objectives are as follows;

Give a basic knowledge of Japanese language to people who are interested in it.
Provide opportunities for students to practise Japanese outside of school.
Share helpful information and resources with teachers of Japanese.

In recent years, Japanese anime, manga, and video games have become popular all over the world, and more and more people have become interested in Japanese language through them. However, when you try to study Japanese by your self, you will found it is quite difficult.

So, first of all, I would like people to have a little look at what kind of language Japanese is before they start studying it in earnest. It takes a long time to learn a language. You have to be motivated to continue.

Secondly, once you have decided to do it, I want you to continue learning for as long as possible. Therefore I would like you to have more opportunities to practise Japanese every day in a casual manner, and to enjoy learning the language outside of your studies and homework at school.

Lastly, I would also like to provide some useful information to Japanese language teachers who are very busy preparing for their classes every day. Let’s help each other to do a better job!

I will strive to make this a useful and informative site for everyone involved in Japanese language!

About the contents

I am planning to enrich the contents of this site with two main sections: “for Japanese language learners” and “for Japanese language teachers”.

Overview of content for Japanese language learners

Grammar explanations will be given in accordance with textbooks for beginner-level learners, so that people with no previous experience in learning Japanese can start learning from scratch.

I am planning to use Genki and Minna no Nihongo as textbooks. Students can study even if they do not have the textbooks. I will also add supplementary explanations related to the grammar in the textbooks so that students can acquire more practical knowledge.

This section will be updated every Wednesday.

Overview of the contents for Japanese language teachers

I will be sharing my own illustrations that can be used for grammar introduction and practice. The illustrations will be based on Genki and Minna no Nihongo, but I’m willing to work with other textbooks and grammars upon request.

I will probably share the illustrations used in the grammar explanations on this site at first. I’m thinking to be focusing on content for learners first, so content for teachers may be a little slower. I hope you’ll be patient with us.

There’s no timetable for updates at the moment, but I’ll do my best to get them out as soon as I can!
