How did you do in the last lesson? Have you learnt 30 Hiragana yet?
As usual, we will first present the answers to the quiz from the previous lesson. Then we will study the eight Hiragana characters from ま to よ.

The font for the answer is not the textbook font. But you can write them in the textbook font.
When we practise Hiragana, we usually use the textbook font. However, if you find it easier to write in another font, you can use any font you like.
Once you can write the Hiragana, read the words! It is also important to practise your pronunciation in order to be able to speak Japanese.
This is the answer to the quiz. Did you answer all the questions correctly?
By now you should have memorised 30 Hiragana perfectly, right? If there are any Hiragana you haven’t memorised yet, practise them before the lesson!
Now, in this lesson, I will introduce the eight Hiragana from ま to よ. If you have a textbook, please look at page 25 of the second edition textbook / page 21 of the third edition textbook. There is a table of Hiragana.
If you don’t have a textbook, you don’t need to look at anything. Just look at the Hiragana instructions below and we’ll study them together!
Hiragana ま, み, む, め, も
The Hiragana characters ま, み, む, め and も are a combination of the consonant [m] and a vowel.
ま is similar to the right side of ほ. Look carefully at the shape and remember it so you don’t get confused.
Below you will find the stroke order for each Hiragana and the words that use it. Practise a lot and you’ll learn!
※ The word みせ is also called おみせ [omise]. It is more polite to say おみせ.
※ The word さむい is used to describe the weather.
※ The word つめたい can be used to describe both things and people, whereas さむい is only used to describe the weather.
A person who is not kind is called つめたいひと.
This is the Hiragana from ま to も.
Please pay attention to the stroke order of も. Hiragana is usually written horizontally, from left to right, first. However, for も, the vertical し is written first, followed by the horizontal line.
If you write Hiragana in the correct order, you will be able to write it well. So let’s make sure we learn how to write them correctly!
Hiragana や, ゆ, よ
Next are や, ゆ and よ.
The Hiragana や, ゆ and よ are a combination of the consonant [y] and a vowel.
In the old Japanese language, there were five Hiragana: や, い, ゆ, え and よ, but nowadays only three are used: や, ゆ and よ.
※ The word やさしい has different meanings in different Kanji. 優しい is kind and 易しい is easy.
※ The word ゆ is also called おゆ [oyu]. It is more polite to say おゆ.
This is the Hiragana from や to よ.
There are only three, so it’s easy to remember.
You have now learnt 38 Hiragana, from あ to よ. There are only 8 basic Hiragana left!
In the next lesson we will learn the remaining 8 Hiragana. We are almost there. Let’s keep up the good work!

If you have a workbook, practise the Hiragana in your workbook. The homework is on page 120 in the second edition workbook and on page 124 in the third edition workbook.
If you don’t have a workbook, write each of the Hiragana you have studied in this lesson ten times carefully. When you write, read the Hiragana as you write! This will help you to remember both the pronunciation and the characters of the Hiragana.
We have one more homework assignment this time too. Let’s write all the Hiragana we have studied so far on the chart!

To begin, draw a table like the one above in your notebook. The table above is an example, so I have not filled in all the characters. Please make sure you write all the Hiragana.
After writing the chart, read the Hiragana!
First, read the Hiragana in the table horizontally, from left to right. The order is: あ, い, う, え, お, か, き, く, け, こ.
Then read the table vertically, from top to bottom. The order is: あ, か, さ, た, な, は, ま, や, い, き, し, ち, に, ひ, み.
Learning how to read vertically is useful when learning how to change verbs.
Once you’ve learnt how to read both, you’ll be perfect! If you practise a little bit every day, you’ll soon learn how to read!
This is the end of our lesson.
The next lesson will be the last of our basic Hiragana lessons. After studying the remaining 8 Hiragana in the next lesson, we will study some more Hiragana in addition.

答（こた）えのフォントは、教科書（きょうかしょ）のフォントじゃないです。でも、教科書（きょうかしょ）のフォントで書（か）いてもいいです。
ひらがなを練習（れんしゅう）する時（とき）は、たいてい教科書（きょうかしょ）のフォントで練習（れんしゅう）します。もちろん、どのフォントを使（つか）ってもいいですよ。
ひらがなが書（か）けたら、単語（たんご）を読（よ）んでみましょう！日本語（にほんご）を上手（じょうず）に話（はな）すためには、発音（はつおん）の練習（れんしゅう）も大事（だいじ）ですよ。
これが、クイズの答（こた）えです。全部（ぜんぶ）できましたか。
これで、みなさんはもう30個（こ）のひらがながかんぺきですね！まだ覚（おぼ）えていないひらがながあったら、レッスンの前（まえ）に練習（れんしゅう）して覚（おぼ）えましょう！
それでは、今回（こんかい）は、「ま」から「よ」まで、8個（こ）のひらがなを紹介（しょうかい）します。教科書（きょうかしょ）がある人（ひと）は、第二版（だいにはん）の教科書（きょうかしょ）の25ページ/第三版（だいさんぱん）の教科書（きょうかしょ）の21ページを見（み）てください。ひらがなの表（ひょう）があります。
教科書（きょうかしょ）がない人（ひと）は、何（なに）も見（み）なくていいです。下（した）にあるひらがなの説明（せつめい）を見（み）て、一緒（いっしょ）に勉強（べんきょう）しましょう！
ひらがな「ま」「み」「む」「め」「も」
ひらがなの「ま」「み」「む」「め」「も」は、子音（しいん） [m] ＋ 母音（ぼいん）です。
「ま」は、「ほ」の右側（みぎがわ）とよく似（に）ていますね。形（かたち）をよく見（み）て、正（ただ）しく覚（おぼ）えましょう。
下（した）に、それぞれのひらがなの書（か）き方（かた）と、そのひらがなを使（つか）った単語（たんご）を紹介（しょうかい）します。たくさん練習（れんしゅう）して、覚（おぼ）えましょう！
※「みせ」は「おみせ」とも言（い）います。「おみせ」のほうがていねいです。
※「さむい」は、天気（てんき）について言（い）う時（とき）使（つか）います。
※「さむい」は天気（てんき）だけですが、「つめたい」は物（もの）と人（ひと）に使（つか）えます。
優（やさ）しくない人（ひと）を「冷（つめ）たい人（ひと）」と言（い）います。
これが、ひらがなの「ま」から「も」までです。
「も」の書（か）き順（じゅん）に注意（ちゅうい）してください。ひらがなは、たいてい左（ひだり）から右（みぎ）へ、横（よこ）に書（か）くところをはじめに書（か）きます。でも、「も」は縦（たて）の「し」を書（か）いてから、横（よこ）の線（せん）を書（か）きます。
ひらがなは、正（ただ）しい書（か）き順（じゅん）で書（か）くと、上手（じょうず）に書（か）けます。なので、書（か）き方（かた）も正（ただ）しく覚（おぼ）えましょうね！
ひらがな「や」「ゆ」「よ」
次（つぎ）は、「や」「ゆ」「よ」です。
「や」「ゆ」「よ」は、子音（しいん） [y] と母音（ぼいん）の組（く）み合（あ）わせです。
古（ふる）い日本語（にほんご）では、「や」「い」「ゆ」「え」「よ」の五（いつ）つがありましたが、今（いま）は「や」「ゆ」「よ」の三（みっ）つしか使（つか）いません。
※「やさしい」は漢字（かんじ）が違（ちが）うと、意味（いみ）も違（ちが）います。
「優しい」は ‘kind’ で、「易しい」は ‘easy’ です。
※「ゆ」は「おゆ」とも言（い）います。「おゆ」のほうがていねいです。
これが、ひらがなの「や」から「よ」までです。
3個（こ）だけなので、簡単（かんたん）ですね。
これで、みなさんは「あ」から「よ」まで、38個（こ）のひらがなを勉強（べんきょう）しました。基本（きほん）のひらがなは、あと8個（こ）だけですよ！
次（つぎ）のレッスンで、あと8個（こ）のひらがなを勉強（べんきょう）します。あと少（すこ）しですね。この調子（ちょうし）でがんばりましょう！

宿題（しゅくだい）
最後（さいご）に、宿題（しゅくだい）です。
ワークブックがある人（ひと）は、ワークブックにあるひらがなの練習（れんしゅう）をしましょう。第二版（だいにはん）のワークブックは120ページ、第三版（だいさんぱん）のワークブックは124ページが宿題（しゅくだい）です。
ワークブックがない人（ひと）は、このレッスンで勉強（べんきょう）したひらがなを、それぞれ10回(かい）ずつていねいに書（か）いてください。書（か）く時（とき）は、ひらがなを読（よ）みながら書（か）きましょう！ ひらがなの発音（はつおん）と文字（もじ）を一緒（いっしょ）に覚（おぼ）えられますよ。
今回（こんかい）も、もう一（ひと）つ宿題（しゅくだい）があります。これまでに勉強（べんきょう）したひらがなを、全部（ぜんぶ）表（ひょう）に書（か）いてみましょう！

はじめに、上（うえ）のような表（ひょう）をノートに書（か）いてください。上（うえ）の表（ひょう）は例（れい）なので、全部（ぜんぶ）書（か）いていません。みなさんは、ひらがなを全部（ぜんぶ）書（か）いてくださいね。
表（ひょう）を書（か）いたら、ひらがなを読（よ）みましょう！
まず、表（ひょう）のひらがなを、左（ひだり）から右（みぎ）へ、横（よこ）に読（よ）みましょう。「あ」「い」「う」「え」「お」、「か」「き」「く」「け」「こ」……の順番（じゅんばん）です。
それから、次（つぎ）に表（ひょう）を、上（うえ）から下（した）へ、縦（たて）に読（よ）んでみましょう。「あ」「か」「さ」「た」「な」「は」「ま」「や」、「い」「き」「し」「ち」「に」「ひ」「み」……の順番（じゅんばん）です。
縦（たて）の読（よ）み方（かた）を覚（おぼ）えると、動詞（どうし）の変化（へんか）を覚（おぼ）える時（とき）に便利（べんり）です。
どちらの読（よ）み方（かた）も覚（おぼ）えたら、かんぺきです！毎日（まいにち）少（すこ）しずつでも練習（れんしゅう）すれば、すぐに覚（おぼ）えられますよ！
それでは、今回（こんかい）のレッスンはこれで終（お）わりです。
基本（きほん）のひらがなのレッスンは、次（つぎ）のレッスンが最後（さいご）です。次（つぎ）のレッスンで残（のこ）りの8個（こ）のひらがなを勉強（べんきょう）した後（あと）は、もう少（すこ）し他（ほか）のひらがなについて勉強（べんきょう）します。
