Hello, everyone!
It’s depressing to hear all the news about coronavirus every day. How are you all doing? I haven’t seen my friends and family in Japan for two years now. I miss them very much, but I’m doing okay. I hope you all are well too. Please take care of yourselves!
Well, I’ve been saying ‘This is the year I go back to Japan!’ for the last two years. The year 2022 has only just begun and I’m not sure yet if I’ll be able to go back to my country this year.
So I thought it might be a good idea that we’d look back at my memories of Japan with some photos together as a little trip on desktop.

Tokyo

Tokyo is famous for the Tokyo Tower. Nowadays, the Tokyo Skytree is probably more popular (and it is also higher than the Tokyo Tower).
By the way, I’ve been to both of them, and it’s a pity that the Skytree, because of its height, doesn’t have much of a view when the weather is bad.
On a side note, when my friend and I went to Tokyo Tower, for some reason we decided to go down the stairs and I remember being very tired. I don’t think you’ll try it, but it’s not the height to go down stairs.
I have been to Tokyo several times. I prefer to live in the countryside because I don’t like crowds, but Tokyo is very nice to visit. As you know, Tokyo is a great place to go and have fun. It has everything you need or want and the trains are very convenient.
I like Ghibli films, so I want to visit the Ghibli museum next time.
Osaka
My bestfriend lives there and I always go there when I go back to Japan.
Food in Osaka is delicious, isn’t it? I love takoyaki, okonomiyaki and pork buns from 551 Horai. You can eat takoyaki in Australia too, but most of them are fried in oil. It is also tasty, but, of course, it’s better to eat Japanese food in Japan.
I sometimes wonder how are the stray cats who were playing in the garden of Umeda Sky Building doing? Ever since I started living with my cat, I can’t help but think about cats everywhere I go. Cats are so cute.
I don’t think we see many stray cats in Australia. Perhaps it’s because they are not cared for by the local community like in Japan, but are left to the care of shelters and groups.
Kyoto
Kyoto is a famous tourist destination like Osaka, so I often travel there when I’m in Osaka. I’ve been there so many times that I think I’ve seen most of the sights, but it’s always good to go back again and again.
I think that the beauty of Japan is that even in the same place, the atmosphere changes with each season. I think I’ve only been to Kyoto in spring and summer, so I’d like to visit in autumn next time. In autumn, the autumn leaves must be so beautiful there.
By the way, there is my favourite coffee shop, Inoda coffee, in Kyoto. I personally love their coffee a lot. Whenever I visit Kyoto, I always buy some coffee beans for myself and as a souvenir.
Kyoto is famous for its Maiko (apprentice Geisha), but unfortunately I haven’t seen any yet as they don’t seem to go out much during the day. I’d like to meet them if I can.
Nara
Like Kyoto, I often visit Nara as it is next to Osaka. I love the quietness of Nara station.
The photo above of Todaiji Temple is my personal favorite. I was there during the cherry blossom season, so I was able to take some beautiful pictures.
When I go to Nara, I am usually attacked by deer in Nara Park. Deer are cute, but I have been bitten, head-butted and had our souvenir paper bags eaten. Of course, I didn’t do anything wrong to the deer! I am rather a bit scared of deer these days because of this.
I love visiting shrines and temples, so I really enjoy walking around Nara. There are still a lot of places I haven’t visited yet, so I’d like to take my time and visit more places.
Hiroshima
I went there only once in 2019.
I had only seen the Genbaku Dome (the Atomic Bomb Dome) in textbooks, but seeing it with my own eyes for the first time made me think about many things. I think it is a good place to learn a lot of things because of its dark and sad history.
When I was in primary school, I read the famous manga Hadashi no Gen (Barefoot Gen) and was shocked. I still remember the graphic scenes that were depicted in the manga. I know that many people don’t like grotesque expressions, but for me, the horrific scenes left a strong message that war should never happen.
Niigata, my hometown, was also mentioned as a possible site for the atomic bomb. It is very painful to think that it might have been my hometown where the bomb was dropped. So I have very mixed feelings about Hiroshima and Nagasaki, where the atomic bombs were actually dropped.
Going to Hiroshima made me think again about how peaceful and blessed my life is.
I’ve seen a lot of things related to the atomic bomb, so next time I go to Hiroshima I’d like to go to a place where I can learn about the culture and folklore of the city. If you have any suggestions, I’d love to hear them!
And the okonomiyaki in Hiroshima is delicious, isn’t it? I’ve compared the okonomiyaki from Osaka with the one from Hiroshima, and I like them both.
By the way, did you know Hiroshima has a tram system? It’s something I’m used to seeing in Australia, but Hiroshima was the first time I’d seen one in Japan.

日本語の記事
みなさん、こんにちは！
連日コロナウイルスに関するニュースばかりで、憂鬱ですね。みなさんはいかがお過ごしですか。もう二年も日本にいる友達や家族と会えていないので寂しいですが、私はどうにか元気でやっています。みなさんも体調には気を付けて、元気にすごしてくださいね！
さて、「今年こそは日本に帰ろう！」と言い続けて二年が過ぎました。2022年はまだ始まったばかりですが、今年は日本に帰れるのかどうかはまだわかりません。
そこで、ちょっと卓上旅行をして、私の日本での思い出を写真とともに振り返ってみようと思います。
残念ながら写真を撮るのはあまり上手ではないのですが、少しでも楽しんでもらえたら幸いです。
東京
東京と言えば、東京タワーですね。でも今はスカイツリーの方が人気でしょうか(スカイツリーの方が高いですしね）。ちなみに私はどちらも行ったことがありますが、スカイツリーは高さがある分天気が悪い時はあまり景色が見えなくて残念ですね。
余談ですが、友人と東京タワーに行った時、何故か階段で降りようと言う話になってすごく疲れた記憶があります。みなさんは試さないと思いますが、階段で降りる高さではないですね。
旅行やら用事やらで、東京には何度も行きました。私は人混みが苦手なので住むなら適度な田舎がいいですが、東京は遊びに行くにはとてもいいですよね。何でもあるし、電車も便利です。
ジブリ映画が好きなので、今度はジブリ美術館に行きたいです。
大阪
大阪には親友が住んでいるので、日本に帰った時はいつも行きます。
大阪の食べ物はおいしいですよね。たこ焼きもお好み焼きも、551蓬莱の豚まんも大好きです。オーストラリアでもたこ焼きは食べられますが、油で揚げたものが多いです。やっぱり日本の食べ物は日本で食べた方がいいですね。
時々、梅田スカイビルのお庭で遊んでいた野良猫さん達は元気かなとか、ふと考えます。猫と一緒に暮らし始めてから、どうしても行く先々で猫を構うようになってしまいました。猫かわいいなあ。
オーストラリアではあまり野良猫を見かけない気がします。恐らく日本のように地域の人達が世話をしたりせず、保護してくれる施設や団体に任せるのかも知れません。
京都
大阪同様有名な観光地なので、大阪に行ったついでによく行きます。何度も行ったのでたいていの観光スポットは一通り見たと思いますが、何度行ってもいいですね。
同じ場所でも、季節毎に趣が変わるのが日本の良い所だと思います。京都は春と夏しか行ったことが無いと思うので、今度は秋に行ってみたいです。きっと紅葉が綺麗だろうなあと思います。
ところで、京都には私のお気に入りのイノダコーヒーさんがあります。ここのコーヒー豆が個人的にお気に入りです。京都に行くと、いつも自分用と手土産用に買っています。
京都と言えば舞妓さんのイメージがありますが、日中はあまり外を出歩かないみたいなので、残念ながらまだ見かけたことはありません。ご迷惑でなければ、一度お会いしてみたいですね。
奈良
京都同様、大阪の隣なのでよく行きます。奈良駅前の静かな感じがとても好きです。
上に乗せた東大寺の写真が個人的にとても気に入っています。ちょうど桜の時期に行ったので、きれいな写真が撮れました。
私は奈良に行くと、たいてい奈良公園で鹿に襲われます。鹿はかわいいですが、これまでに噛まれる、頭突きされる、土産物の紙袋を食べられるといった被害に遭っております。もちろん、何も悪いことはしていませんよ！おかげで最近はむしろ鹿がちょっと怖いです。
神社やお寺が好きなので、奈良の散策はとても楽しいです。まだ行っていないところはたくさんあるので、今度はのんびり色んな所に行ってみたいです。
広島
2019年に一度だけ行きました。
教科書でしか見たことが無かった原爆ドームを初めて自分の目で見て、いろいろ考えさせられました。暗くて悲しい歴史がある分、たくさんのことを学ばせてくれる良い所だと思います。
小学生の時に『はだしのゲン』という有名な漫画を読んで、衝撃を受けました。今でも漫画の中で描かれていた生々しい光景をよく覚えています。グロテスクな表現は苦手な人も多いと思いますが、私にとってはあの惨たらしさが「戦争はあってはならない」と言う強いメッセージとなって胸に残りました。
原爆の候補地には、私の故郷である新潟も挙がっていました。もしかしたら原爆が落とされていたのは自分の故郷だったかも知れないと思うと、とても辛いですし、広島や長崎の経験を他人事とは思えません。
広島に行って、自分がどれだけ穏やかで恵まれた生活をしているのか、改めて考えるきっかけになりました。
原爆関連のものは色々見て来たので、今度行く時は広島の文化や民俗について学べるところに行ってみたいと思います。何処かお勧めの所があればぜひ紹介していもらえると嬉しいです！
そういえば、広島は路面電車があるんですね。オーストラリアの私が住んでいる地域では見慣れたものですが、日本で見たのは広島が初めてでした。
そして、広島のお好み焼きもおいしいですよね。大阪と食べ比べましたがどちらも好きです。
それでは、今回の小旅行はこれでおしまいです。少しでも楽しんでいただけたでしょうか。
